Joppa Flats Audubon Center

“We're trying to do something to make a difference. There's no pollution, no contribution to carbon emissions. The benefits to the environment start immediately. In the near future we're going to have to do more and more with this (solar energy). If everyone had solar, think how much less oil we'd be importing.”

Bill Gete, Director, Audubon Joppa Flats Center

The Joppa Flats Audubon Education Center contracted Alteris™ Renewables to design and install their 60 solar panel system. The panels are installed along three sections of the building’s roof. The education center, which has focused on energy efficiency for many years, is using the sun to provide as much as 40% of the building’s electric needs. Over a 25-year period, the solar panels will save 140 tons of carbon dioxide and it’s the equivalent to planting more than 1300 trees.
