Join us May 15th for a tour of a LEED Platinum home and solar install by Alteris in New Canaan, CT
On Saturday, May 15, a solar tour and green building seminar will be held at an extraordinary LEED Platinum home in New Canaan, Connecticut. Sponsored by People’s Action for Clean Energy (PACE) in conjunction with the Connecticut Green Building Council (CGBC) and the Connecticut Clean Energy Fund (CCEF), the tour and seminar will give visitors an opportunity to learn about sustainable building, landscaping and lifestyle ideas. The owners, builders, system installers and the architect will be present to answer questions.

At 9:00 am, 12:00 noon or 3:00 pm, visitors in size-limited sessions will view the home’s 10.8 kilowatt solar electric system installed by Alteris Renewables; roof-mounted solar hot water panels for domestic hot water, a radiant-heated floor and a warm air system; and a pellet-fired boiler that automatically loads if the temperature in the 1,000-gallon water storage tank drops. Secondary back-up heat is provided by a high-efficiency, condensing propane boiler.
Among other green features of this beautiful Adirondack-style house are triple-glazed windows with two layers of low-e coating; roof shingles that look like slate but are actually recycled plastic and rubber; FSC-certified wood, salvaged and local wood; IceStone recycled glass counters; a greywater system that reuses water; a composting toilet; and a masonry fireplace. The landscaping is sustainable, with drought-resistant plants and an organic garden and fruit trees.
Reservations, indicating first, second and third choices of time, will be accepted in order of receipt for the tour/seminar, which will be held rain or shine.
The non-refundable tickets may also be ordered online after April 10. For ticket processing information, call 860-623-5487.
For tour information, call 860-693-4813 or visit the event page on PACE’s website.
