Press Roundup: Cohoes Middle School to get Large Solar Array

Cohoes Middle School is going to get a 45.6 kilowatt solar electric system installed on its roof this summer as part of a $309,821 grant through the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority. The money was originally federal stimulus funding. Alteris Renewables, which has an office in Menands and Saratoga Springs, will be installing the system, which is about ten times as large as a large home system. The Cohoes school district believes the system will reduce its dependence on utility power by 14 percent, saving the school $10,000 in electricity costs annually.
