Avon Old Farms School

“I am proud that our school is positioned at the forefront of the sustainability movement in our country. We are passionately committed to reducing our energy consumption and waste, and to creating a sustainable campus.”

Kenneth LaRocque, Headmaster of Avon Old Farms

The 205kW system installed at the Avon Old Farms School was a major initiative as part of their commitment to the Green Schools Alliance. Located on the roof of the Jennings Fairchild Ice Rink, the solar panels will power 10% of the campus total electrical load. This system is made possible through a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA). Through a contract with EOS Ventures who owns the equipment, Avon Old Farms purchases the electricity generated at a rate that will never increase over the life of the system. The solar electricity will cost the school about 30% less than electricity from the utility. Through campus-wide conservation efforts, this solar installation, and several other major energy-efficiency efforts, Avon Old Farms School won the Green Cup Challenge in the Northeast Boarding School division. Over 150 schools nationwide participated in this student-led challenge to reduce energy use.
